Takes a while to start...just like most of mine!

Why does all your music conjure up images of old 8-bit sounding games involving armies marching over mountains and hills into a field to do battle? Once again, good work, but you could have added more.

tweerock responds:

Of course. Out of all my older creations, this might be my second favourite. I could've done more, yes, but this is here for nostalgia for me.

Thanks!

Is Project Light on Newgrounds?

Excellent song, but I think it's more suited for the final level before or the minimovie after a boss. It's too happy and not dramatic or urgent. As for the song itself, the only thing preventing me from giving it a ten is that I am a harsh judge and there could have been more instruments, excitement, and surprises if you had made this longer.

tweerock responds:

Project Light is not on anywhere, but when it's out of beta, it'll be on the GMC (shooter, puzzler, platformer).

Hehe, no worries, and thanks for the review.\

EDIT: Not anymore. I really gotta quality control my 'hirings'. The only guy that I've worked with who's trustworthy is Orange08.

Good work

I just realized that, while you've reviewed several of my songs, I haven't reviewed yours! So, here goes. First, i really liked the instruments you used. I wouldn't have thought to use some of the more distorted, fuzzy guitar ones, but they worked great. This loops very well. There were a few tiny mistakes, and this would have sounded better with some horns, but those are my only reccommendations. Good work.

tweerock responds:

Thanks!

Out of everything before Natural Forces, this is my favourite and best song. I'm proud of it.

Drums controlled the whole thing

I loved how this started out simple for a few seconds and then the drums took over! You included a lot of extra sounds beneath the drums to make it interesting, and that worked very well. This song had a dramatic undertone and was very powerful. It would be right at home in a boss fight in a bullet dodging game or a turn-based rpg. Great job!

Foxtacy responds:

WHOA! thanks! :D i think this requires a little bit of post mixing >_<

A bit repetitive, but still awesome!

I really liked that techno-ish sound that went up then down. The guitars beneath the guitars beneath more guitars was very good. The sounds you used for the drums were excellent! They didn't sound like any drums I'd ever heard before, but they were awesome! That part where it slowed down was a nice touch as well. It was a little bit repetitive, but still good. This song would be excellent in a video game level. I'm seeing one of those continually side-scrolling ones where you run and jump to collect money, power, and defeat enemies.

Took a while to really get going

The beginning of this was slow and slightly boring, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's more of a suspense/surveying the aftermath of a battle that comes before the surpise. At about the three minute mark, this became absolutely EPIC. You could have started the song from there, there's enough suspense. That's the only negative thing I have to point out though: an unneccesary but still good first three minutes (give or take a few seconds, I wasn't watching the clock super intently)

Lashmush responds:

Heheh, the first 3 minutes are an old non-metal track I remade as sort of a reintroduction and mood setter since at first I only made Part I and II and it was meant to end right there. I just couldn't let it go though and decided to keep working on it, developing it into an entire full length which was achieved already with Part IV. The fifth one was just the grand finale.

Then again, I've mapped out the sequel "Mater Infinitum" at roughly 120 minutes so I suppose this was merely the first of a greater series of work.

Thanks again for another great review!

Wow. Just...wow

I think that this belongs more in the classical or general rock categories (There should be a category for a blend of the two), but I found it anyway, and I'm glad I did! I think that you could have taken out 4:14-4:32 because it was weak and because that pattern was repeated enough afterwards. I loved all the different sounds you used, especially that startup/powerup/whatever sound (the one that starts low and ends high) scattered in there. The melody was good. It seemed like it was spur of the moment improv, not planned out, but it still worked. You used the instruments well and made magic with your music. You could have ended it at 6:24 and made the second half into a different song. It seems like this is part of a series, but this is the first one I saw. If the others are like this, you've got an album ready! There are a few parts you could cut, but other than that, this song was excellent!

Lashmush responds:

Thanks alot! Yeah, this is 13 minutes out of a 65 minute project of mine that I originally finished in 2010 but ever since the fifth parts been completed have felt needed to be remastered and in some aspects recrafted so the entire thing plays with the same standard of quality.

Also, yes, that was in fact a powerup sample. About ending it halfway, this song is meant to be a seamless 65 minute track with probably around 20-25 cue positions for quick reference. So in a sense, its many tracks and only one track at the same time. Especially in regards to the fifth part where I revisited lots of tracks I did in between 2003-2007.

I don't think its necessary to point out though that I work with tons of breaks and drops in my tracks. :3

Thanks for a great review!

I love reading, writing, and music making. I also love pranks, especially computer tricks. I ski, play soccer, and love jumping. Over trash cans, off walls, onto tables, anywhere! I talk constantly and unceasingly. I've got slight mental problems. #
